Residents of Syracuse woke up this morning to unexpected snow. Syracuse.com reports the snowfall was unexpected: “The precipitation was caused by a weak cold front that really had no cold behind it but was strong enough to generate air lift and bring snow showers…” Snow flurries are expected to last through Wednesday.

Winter Storm Warning for New York

The eastern coast of the United States has been hit by snow in a big way. A winter storm warning remains in effect for New York until 6:00 pm EST on Monday.

The Weather Channel predicts snow will steadily fall throughout the night and into Monday morning. It will then lighten up in the afternoon. Some areas of the state will see as little as 4 inches of snow and some could see as much as 14 inches.

Adding to the winter weather will be sustained winds of speeds between 15 to 25 mph. Ice and sleet are also expected to make an appearance during this weather episode. The Weather Channel warns that travel will be very hazardous if not impossible.
