30 Acres Burned in 6-Alarm Brush Fire

Staten Island residents used garden hoses to help fight off a brush fire that burned down a vacant house and 30+ acres of land. This 6-alarm fire started in the afternoon and was quickly fueled by winds from a nearby bay, disrupting Easter festivities in homes that had to be temporarily evacuated.

250 firefighters worked on putting out the wildfire and were able to control the blaze in about four hours. Two other homes, along with a retaining wall made of PVC pipes, also suffered damages. Nobody was injured in this fire.

Devastating Plane Crash in Buffalo

James Kraus for Bloomberg.com reports:

“A Continental Airlines plane crash in Buffalo, New York, killed 49 people, the Buffalo News said, citing unconfirmed reports from Buffalo Niagra International Airport.

The dead included 44 passengers, four crew members and a person on the ground, the newspaper said.

As many has 50 people may have been aboard the aircraft, the newspaper said, citing County Executive Chris Collins. Crew members reported mechanical problems as the plane approached the airport, the newspaper added.”
